【摘要】:Alkali-solubilityisanindicationofthedegreeofdamagetowoolresultingfromcertainchemicaltreatments,particularlywhentestresultsonthesamewool,beforesuchtreatment,areavailable.5.1.1Undamagedscouredwoolhastypicalalkali-solubilityintherangeof9to15%.Fine,undamagedwoolnormallywillexhibithighersolubilitythancoarsewool,becauseofgreatersurfaceareaperunitmassoffiber.Thistestmethodisnotrecommendedforuseonwoolknowntohavesustainedalkalidamage.5.2.1Alkali-damagedwoolhashadmaterialsolubilizedthatordinarilywouldbeincludedinthealkali-solubilitytestresults.Althoughresultsinonelaboratorycannotusuallybeverifiedinanotherlaboratory,thistestmethodisconsideredsatisfactoryforacceptancetestingbecauseithasbeenusedextensivelyinthetradeforthispurposeandbecauseitistheonlyavailablemethodforassessingdamagetowoolbyanalkalisolubilityprocedure.Comparativetestsasdirectedin5.3.1areadvisablebeforeTestMethodD1283isusedforacceptancetesting.5.3.1IncaseofadisputearisingfromdifferencesinreportedtestresultswhenusingTestMethodD1283foracceptancetestingofcommercialshipments,thepurchaserandthesuppliershouldconductcomparativeteststodetermineifthereisastatisticalbiasbetweentheirlaboratories.Competentstatisticalassistanceisrecommendedfortheinvestigationofbias.Asaminimum,thetwopartiesshouldtakeagroupoftestspecimenswhichareashomogeneousaspossibleandwhicharefromalotofmaterialofthetypeinquestion.Thetestspecimensshouldthenberandomlyassignedinequalnumberstoeachlaboratoryfortesting.TheaverageresultfromthetwolaboratoriesshouldbecomparedusingStudentrsquo;t-testforunpaireddataandanacceptableprobabilitylevelchosenbythetwopartiesbeforetestingisbegun.Ifabiasisfound,eitheritscausemustbefoundandcorrectedorthepurchaserandthesuppliermustagreetointerpretfuturetestresultsinthelightoftheknownbias.1.1Thistestmethodcoversachemicalprocedurefordeterminationoftheamountofwoolsubstancesolubleinalkaliunderstandardconditionsandisapplicabletowoolinscouredfiberform,orasfiberobtainedfromyarnorfromwovenornonwovenfabric.1.2Thevaluesstatedininch-poundaretoberegardedasstandard.ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsareprovidedforinformationonly.Thistestmethodisapplicabletootheranimalfibersalthoughthelevelofalkali-solubilitymaybedifferentfromwool.Withindividualanimalfibers,undamagedsolubilityshouldbedeterminedbeforeattemptingtoassessdamageonanunknownsample.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
